Complete Dentures
A complete denture is a removable prosthetic appliance for patients who are missing all of their teeth.
There are several types of complete dentures:
Conventional Complete Dentures
Conventional Complete Dentures are made after a patient has had all of their teeth extracted and their tissue has had time to heal. The amount of time needed for healing varies but is a minimum of 6-8 weeks.
Implant Supported Complete Dentures
For patients with adequate amounts of bone, implant supported complete dentures are an excellent option. A denture can be made that attaches to dental implants significantly improving the retention and stability of the denture.
Immediate Dentures
Immediate Dentures are dentures that are inserted on the same day that the teeth are extracted. Measurements are taken and models are made at the patient’s preliminary appointment. The benefit of an Immediate Denture is that the patient will not have to go without teeth during the healing process. However, the gums and bone will shrink after the teeth are extracted and the Immediate Denture may need to be relined to improve the fit. After adequate time has been allowed for healing (6-8 weeks), a Conventional Denture can be made..

Partial Dentures
A Removable Partial Denture is an appliance for patients who are missing some of their teeth. They consist of artificial teeth attached to pink plastic bases, which are then connected to a metal framework. Clasps are placed on the partial to improve its retention.
In some cases, it is also possible for partial dentures to be made completely of plastic, without a metal framework. |
